Until today, the project has actually biked 2241km for Wolves!
Yesterday evening, I was interviewed by Jari Heavisto from the newspaper Sompio www.sompio.se and met up with Perti from the Sportia shop in Sodankylä. Today I have to see to that everything works with the bike and the trailer. As a first help, I wil get a new shaft sent to an adress in Kemijärvi, to Anneli, the owner of Rantahotelli Uitonniemi www.uitonniemi.fi , who will kindly sponsor me as well.
After several trials, it was not possible to arrange a new trailer to be delivered to Sodankylä to an acceptable price. Even if Sportspec in Gothenburg www.sportspec.se offered a 30% discount on the trailer and all the other items on the list of needs, only the postal fee would have been 1000 SEK (ca. 100 Euro). And it would take several days to arrive. This time I do not have if I want to meet up the latest 14 october - in 9 days! - with Lassi Rautiainen www.articmedia.fi, Ulla Räsänen & Nina Harju from the Finish Nature League and obviously also a Belgium TV-team.
Perti from Sportia has tried to weld the shaft and had carried all my bagage from his shop to the camping site where I was offered a night's stay - wonderful help! Thanks so much Perti and Sportia Sodankylä!
The next step then will be to try to sort out how to arrange for a new trailer without these immense costs.... One big step is already taken as Carina Lintula and her company Booking Birds www.bookingbirds.fi has sponsored me with a major part of the costs of the trailer! Thank you Carina!!! - we did not even know each other and yet she is willing to sponsor the tour - great!!!
4. october 2012
This day did not begin in a happy mood. Yesterday evening, when I was about to get close to Sodankylä, where a camping-hut waitet for me at Nilimella Camping, my biking-trailer broke down - again!
This is really a disaster! In the middle of nowhere, I could not do otherwise, then stay over night and wait for the morning light. I tried to somehow repair the broken trailer, the broken shaft, but it did not work. After some hours, I gave up and tried instead to stop a care in order to load the trailer on it towards Sodankylä. But for more than halv an hour not one! car stopped! At least I got help from a friendly person, Jussi, who transported the trailer to Sportia at Sodanlylä. The project had managed to get in contact with Perti at the shop, who was willing to receive the trailer.
I myself went on by bike - in pouring rain and have now reached Sodankylä. By phone, I heard that Perti already has looked at the trailer and tried to repair it. But I am convinced that it won't hold. It has broken down too many times now, and with smaller and smaller intervalls - it won't do any more.
So now, the project urgently is in need of help to somehow arrange a new trailer! Time is running out if I want to manage to meet with the Finnish Nature League, Ulla and Nina at Lassi Rautiainens basecamp between 11. & 14. october - where they arranged a meeting with the Finish press also.
